Cornell College of Business launches
Cornell University has begun "a new era of business education," with the launch of the College of Business July 1, Dean Soumitra Dutta said.

The College of Business is now one operating college within the university's administrative system. Also as of July 1 the deans for each of the three schools have assumed their official positions, Dutta said. Read more »
Kate Walsh, MPS '90 begins term as interim dean

On July 1, Kate Walsh, MPS '90 began a two-year term as interim dean of SHA.

"My vision for the school is to maintain our role as the world leader in hospitality education, rooted in our exceptional teaching, reflected in our meaningful research, and continuously enhanced based on our deep understanding of this exciting and evolving industry," she said. Read more »

Michael Johnson concludes deanship, becomes provost of Babson College

This summer, Michael Johnson concluded his term as SHA's sixth dean. He has been granted professor emeritus status and elected dean emeritus by the Board of Trustees.

Johnson has since assumed the position of provost of Babson College in Massachusetts, an institution renowned for excellence in entrepreneurship education. Read more »

This past June, the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management MBA Programs staff traveled to Austin, TX, with a group of Johnson MBA candidates for the MBA Women's Leadership Conference hosted by the Forté Foundation, a coalition of top businesses, firms, and business schools Johnson has collaborated with for twelve years. Two SHA faculty members among 2016 Engaged Cornell faculty fellows

SHA's Stephanie Creary and Jeanne Varney are among the twelve Cornell faculty members named Engaged Cornell faculty fellows for the 2016-17 academic year.

This selective program supports faculty who do community-engaged teaching or research and use their scholarship to address challenges in the world beyond campus. Read more »

Kelly McGuire, MMH '01, PhD '07 named MMH Outstanding Alumna of the Year

Kelly McGuire, vice president of advanced analytics at Wyndham Destination Network, has been selected to receive the 2016 Cornell MMH Outstanding Alumnus of the Year Award, presented by the Master of Management in Hospitality (MMH) program at SHA.

McGuire will receive the award at the 15th annual Cornell MMH Reception on Sunday, November 13. Read more »

Sharon Poczter '01, assistant professor of applied economics and management at the Dyson School, found that women entrepreneurs on the television show Shark Tank got about half as much funding for their startup ventures as men—but only because they asked for less. Read more »

Cornell Hospitality, Health, and Design Symposium: In Search of a Healthy Future

The Cornell Hospitality, Health, and Design Symposium (HHDS2016) will take place October 9-11 at Cornell.

An essential element of HHDS2016 is to bridge the gap between academic research and practice and provide opportunities for engaged discussions between scholars and industry leaders. Therefore, the symposium will feature equal numbers of speakers from both industry and academia during each session. Read more »

Statler Hotel promotes Thomas Gisler to director of food and beverage

The Statler Hotel is pleased to announce the promotion of Thomas Gisler to director of food and beverage. Gisler had served as executive chef of the Statler since 2005. In his expanded role, he will leverage his substantial culinary wisdom and experience as he oversees both front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house food-and-beverage (F&B) operations at the hotel.
