Passing of Professor Emeritus James J. Eyster
SHA was saddened to report the sudden passing of Professor Emeritus James J. Eyster on April 7. Our sympathy goes out to Eyster’s wife Sue, their children Jennifer and William, and their entire family.
As an educator and a scholar of financial management and real estate, Professor Eyster left a profound mark on countless students, his colleagues, and the hospitality industry. He was active in community service and social justice, and pioneered the course "Housing and Feeding the Homeless."
Funeral services were held Monday, April 13 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Ithaca.

7th Annual Cornell Hospitality Icon & Innovator Awards
The 7th iteration of SHA's premier annual event is coming up next Tuesday, June 2, in New York City.
The awards gala will celebrate the 2015 Cornell Icon of the Industry, Barry S. Sternlicht, chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital Group; and the 2015 Cornell Hospitality Innovator, Damian J. Mogavero, CEO and founder of Avero, Inc.
The annual Cornell Hospitality Icon & Innovator Awards gala is well attended by leaders and visionaries from throughout the global world of hospitality, and showcases our school's partnership with industry.

Drawing upon the senses leads to good wine memories (Cornell Chronicle)
Thinking in pictures and shapes—rather than mere words—will lead to improved consumer sensory memories about wine, said Kathy LaTour, associate professor of services marketing.
"So much of wine education is based on learning a verbal lexicon, and that distances the consumer from the wine experience," said LaTour, who teaches wine marketing. "Getting in touch with wine's taste through drawing can lead to a deeper understanding of it."
