$1 Million Gift Endows Academic Directorship of the Center for Real Estate and Finance
Arthur Adler '78 and Karen Newman Adler '78 have committed a $1 million gift to endow the academic directorship of the Center for Real Estate and Finance (CREF) at SHA.
As the current director of CREF and an SHA professor of real estate, Daniel Quan will serve as the first Arthur Adler '78 and Karen Newman Adler '78 Academic Director.
Having met at Cornell, the Adlers are both alumni: Arthur of SHA, and Karen of the College of Human Ecology. Their previous support of SHA includes a gift in 2008 to establish the Arthur '78 and Karen '78 Adler scholarship, and another in 2003 to name the Arthur '78 and Karen '78 Adler Faculty Office. SHA benefits from first annual Cornell Giving Day
Wednesday, March 25 bore witness to the first-ever Cornell Giving Day, a festive and inspiring virtual coming-together of alumni, parents, friends, and Big Red fans all over the world to raise support for Cornell over 24 hours.
Contributions made that day had an even bigger impact than usual, thanks to a handful of generous supporters who provided $300,000 in challenge money, awarded according to a college's, school's, or unit's final standing in the giving totals.
SHA is proud to announce that thanks to the generosity of our worldwide community, the school came in third out of 22 Cornell units in the friendly competition, with gifts totaling over $1.13 million. Read More

The AAA Four Diamond Award recognizes upscale establishments that offer an extensive array of amenities combined with a high degree of hospitality, service, and attention to detail. Less than four percent of the 59,000 AAA-rated lodging and dining establishments throughout North America earn the award.

Hospitality Business Plan Competition winners
Every year, the Hospitality Business Plan Competition gives teams of Cornell students the opportunity to develop business concepts and enter them in a competition. The top three teams receive sponsored cash prizes ($15,000, $5,000, and $2,500) to help fund and actually launch their businesses.
This year's five finalist teams made their final presentations to a panel of judges on March 21 as part of Hotel Ezra Cornell. Modern Market took home the grand prize, with BrewMe and RedHead Wine coming in second and third.
Some of the concepts are already "real businesses," and regardless of where they placed in the competition, many others represent viable ideas that could conceivably reach market. Read More
