Students are back on campus, and the quiet(er) days of summer are behind us. This year, 268 new students joined the SHA community—57 external transfers, 15 internal transfers, 23 new students in the Baker Program in Real Estate, and 173 freshman.

Hospitality labor experts headline panel discussion
At the 12th edition of the Dean's Leadership Series, a panel of experts will discuss "The Future of Hospitality Labor Relations." Michael Johnson, dean and E. M. Statler Professor, will moderate the event, and panelists will include John Ceriale P'16, managing director, Prospect Advisors; Dave Sherwyn ’86, JD ’89, the John & Melissa Ceriale Professor and academic director of the Cornell Institute for Hospitality Labor and Employment Relations; and D. Taylor, president, Unite Here. (More panelists to be announced soon.) The event, which is co-presented by the SHA and the Cornell Hotel Society, will be held Monday, November 11, 8:00-10:00 a.m., at the Grand Hyatt in New York City.

SHA welcomes new assistant director of alumni engagement and outreach
Julie Pizzuti MPS ‘06 joined the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development in September as the new assistant director of alumni engagement and outreach. In this role, she will be responsible for developing new engagement programs for alumni and current students. She will also work closely with the national leadership and global chapters of the Cornell Hotel Society.

Lecture series brings hospitality industry leaders to campus
The 2013 Dean's Distinguished Lecture Series (DDLS) will feature leading hospitality executives throughout the fall semester. Established 85 years ago, the DDLS includes leaders from every segment of the hospitality industry, who speak to students about career paths, views on successful management styles and business strategies, and insights on critical industry-related issues.

SHA to host second Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities
The school is preparing to host its second Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) September 28-October 5, 2013. Twenty veterans will attend the program, which is organized through the Leland C. and Mary M. Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship and specializes in business ideas in the hospitality industry.

Unique hospitality revenue scholarship announces spring 2013 winners
SHA and IDeaS Revenue Solutions have announced the winners of the fifth annual IDeaS Cornell Revenue Management Scholarship. Six hospitality professionals have been awarded paid registration to either the Certificate in Hotel Revenue Management or the Certificate in Advanced Hospitality Revenue Management: Pricing and Demand Strategies provided through eCornell.
