Awards gala honors industry luminaries, supports Annual Fund
At the sold-out 5th Annual Cornell Hospitality Icon & Innovator Awards, 800 senior leaders from the travel and hospitality industry gathered to celebrate Tom Pritzker, executive chairman of Hyatt Hotels Corporation, and Steve Ells, founder, chairman, and co-CEO of Chipotle Mexican Grill. The gala raised more than $300,000 for SHA programs and scholarships. Read More

'Well-equipped' grads can proceed with confidence, Skorton says
On Sunday, May 26, 292 Hotelies marched in Cornell’s 145th Commencement. At the SHA Diploma Ceremony, we conferred 237 bachelor’s degrees, 50 MMH degrees, four MS degrees, and one PhD in front of proud families and friends. Congratulations to all!

Faculty members win Ted Teng ’79 Dean’s Teaching Excellence Awards
In recognition of their outstanding teaching and impact on students, Cathy Enz, Pamela Moulton, Andrey Ukhov, and Maria Wolfe received the 2013 Ted Teng ’79 Dean’s Teaching Excellence Awards. These awards were founded in honor of SHA faculty members who influenced the course of Teng’s highly successful career.

Statler Hotel helps “Clean the World”
The Statler Hotel has launched a new collaboration with Clean the World, an innovative not-for-profit organization that aims to deter the spread of preventable diseases around the world by recycling and redistributing soap and bottled amenities that would otherwise be discarded. The Statler will recycle an estimated 1,500 pounds of soap and 1,000 pounds of bottled amenities per year through the Clean the World program. This will provide approximately 1,644 children with soap and 818 children with bottled amenities for an entire year, while also diverting a significant amount of waste from landfills.

CREF at five: supporting students, researchers, and the industry
In 2008, amidst one of the most negative financial environments of the last 100 years, the School of Hotel Administration announced a bold concept, a university-based center devoted to the treatment of real estate as a financial asset. Building on the school's strengths in hospitality real estate, that bold step took root and has grown and prospered through the ensuing recession and recovery. Five years later, the Center for Real Estate and Finance has taken firm hold and continues to expand its services to students, its support of real-estate- and finance-related research, and its interaction with the real estate industry.
