Emerging middle class will define China’s hospitality, real-estate growth

Cornell faculty, international business leaders, Shanghai Vice Mayor Zhao Wen, and other Chinese government officials gathered at the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund on April 20 to examine the state of China's hospitality and commercial real estate markets and discuss current trends, challenges, and opportunities. Half of the 275 attendees were Cornell alumni, and 14 faculty and staff attended from across the university. A total of 39 speakers participated on the program. Read More
Student entrepreneurs go head-to-head in business plan competition

Target market identified? Check. Competition researched? Check. Financials planned, location selected, advisory board recruited? Check, check, and check. There is a lot more to being an entrepreneur than coming up with a great business idea. No one knows this better than the students who participated in the Cornell Hospitality Business Plan Competition, presented by the Leland C. and Mary M. Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship. Cornell team wins MIT real estate competition

Congratulations to the two teams of students from the Baker Program in Real Estate and Johnson Graduate School of Management that competed in “The CASE,” a real estate competition presented by the MIT Center for Real Estate Alumni Association. Out of the 32 teams that entered the contest, both Cornell teams made it to the semifinal round, and one team won first place in the competition! Crocker Liu, the Robert A. Beck Professor of Hospitality Financial Management, and Walter Boudry, assistant professor of real estate, helped coach the winning team of Kyle Reardon '06 MPS-RE/MBA '14, John Reifler MBA '14, Tom Spivey MBA '14, and Tim Hosmer MBA ’13.
The 88th Hotel Ezra Cornell refocuses on student leadership

Traditionally, Hotel Ezra Cornell centers on an industry theme that ties together its student-run, weekend-long hospitality conference. This year, the students refocused the event instead on HEC’s mission: showcasing hospitality education through student leadership. “Our goal was for each aspect of the weekend to highlight student talent in the most genuine way possible. HEC is such a unique event, with students at the core of what differentiates it from other hospitality conferences,” said managing director Chad Wemischner ’13. Read More
Cornell Hospitality Icon & Innovator Awards almost sold out

Tickets are nearly sold out for the 5th annual Cornell Hospitality Icon & Innovator Awards being held June 4 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. The gala event, which supports scholarships at the school, will celebrate the 2013 Cornell Icon of the Industry, Tom Pritzker, as well as the Cornell Hospitality Innovator Award recipient, Steve Ells.
