Award Winning Cornell Study Analyzes Hotel Customer

A recent study that helps hotel operators get the most from customers’ comments has received the 2017 Industry Relevance Award, given by the Center for Hospitality Research (CHR) to the authors of a report or a tool that has had the greatest impact on the hospitality industry in the previous year. The report, titled “What Guests Really Think of Your Hotel: Text Analytics of Online Customer Reviews,” by Hyun Jeong “Spring” Han, Shawn Mankad, Nagesh Gavirneni, and Rohit Verma, won the popular vote among all 2016 CHR publications.

Local Measure released a hotel industry eBook on how consumers’ perceptions of luxury are shaping the hospitality industry, and what hoteliers need to do to anticipate and meet the new standards. “The New Luxury and What it Means for Hotels” e-book reveals that the future of luxury is fluid, revolving around the shifting behaviors of today's consumers. Hoteliers clinging to traditional notions of luxury in the form of marble vanities and silk wallcoverings will be left behind, as today's consumer cares more about experiences and less about things.

Expedia, Inc. is an American travel company that owns and operates several international global online travel brands, primarily travel fare aggregator websites and travel metasearch engines including Expedia.com, Hotels.com, Hotwire.com, trivago, Venere.com, Travelocity, Orbitz, and HomeAway. Center for Hospitality Research Craft Beer Roundtable
The craft beer industry continues to show strong growth within the overall beer industry. Today, there are more beer brands available for the consumer than ever before. This has had an impact on hospitality operators as well as the consumer. Adam Dulye, Executive Chef, Brewers Association said “We (U.S.) is the dominate world leader in craft beer.” Led by Douglass Miller, Lecturer at the School of Hotel Administration, the Craft Beer Roundtable included over 20 beer and hospitality professionals who discussed the changing landscape of the craft beer industry.
