Education

Minor in Real Estate
The undergraduate real estate minor has reached maturity having grown from 25 students in 2009 to 350 students currently. There has been a significant shift in the composition of the minor, with fewer students from SHA than previously (currently 60%, previously around 75%), and a greater number from Cornell’s six other colleges and schools than previously (currently 40%, previously around 25%)...see more.

Register for Free Online Course in Global Hospitality Management
The hospitality industry employs one in eleven people worldwide and boasts growth well over double that of global GDP, making hospitality management a red-hot opportunity for those with the desire, ambition, and keen interest in the business of service to make a career of it. In February, SHA will offer a free six-week MOOC (massive open online course) titled Introduction to Global Hospitality Management, led by four members of SHA’s renowned faculty and featuring veteran industry experts.

Crocker H. Liu is a professor of real estate at the School of Hotel Administration where he holds the Robert A. Beck Professor of Hospitality Financial Management. Interview Prep Panel
On November 15 the Cornell Real Estate Club (CREC) invited five top senior students to share their stories and knowledge in a panel discussion. This direct peer perspective adds value and insight to the job and internship search for students currently seeking employment...see more.

Connecting with REMAC
Members of the Real Estate Minor Alumni of Cornell (REMAC) traveled to campus for a meet-and-greet and a panel discussion hosted by CREC. The event offered students an opportunity to inquire about the job search process and to gain perspectives from those who had recently gone through it...see more.

Real Estate Panel at HEC
This year’s Hotel Ezra Cornell (HEC 90) will host a panel showcasing students who have demonstrated strong interest in hospitality real estate. HEC is a long standing tradition at Cornell and this will be the first time there has been a real estate panel included in the event’s program. The Real Estate Club has been working with the leadership of HEC to bring this element to the event. The panel will follow along with the event’s theme, “…and the rest is history,” with a real estate focus.

Real Estate Students Share Career Insights at Ithaca High School
Members of the Cornell Real Estate Club (CREC) are used to getting off campus. Each year they visit real estate firms in New York City and Philadelphia, where they network with industry executives, tour properties, and experience the industry firsthand...see more.

WX Panel
We are extremely excited to welcome members of WX: New York Women Executives in Real Estate back to campus next semester. WX will be hosting a panel discussion on campus for our real estate students. Distinguished real estate executives from the organization will offer career advice and discuss gender issues relevant to this group. This is the second year we will be hosting this very popular event for our students.

Executive Real Estate Head Hunter
As we continue our efforts of providing guidance to our real estate students in building a fulfilling work experience, we will host a senior executive search professional on campus this coming spring. Our goal is to inform our students about how to best structure their careers during their first jobs to maximize their future marketability.

CREF Breakfast Meeting at ALIS
Professor Jack Corgel has graciously agreed to hold a meet and greet breakfast meeting during this year’s ALIS conference in LA. Jack will present an overview of the many activities of CREF and share with attendees the plans for the future. Unfortunately, many of our CREF faculty members cannot attend ALIS since this corresponds with our first full week of classes, a time when the faculty members need to be made available to all students.

Sixth Annual Cornell International Real Estate Case Competition
Word has gotten around about the Cornell International Real Estate Case Competition. Come ready to learn and ready to compete. A total of sixteen teams from four continents traveled to New York City to participate in the November 2014 competition, which gives teams of six students just five days to prepare an analysis of an actual commercial real estate transaction...see more.
