Research

CREF Issues Cornell Real Estate Market Indices for First Quarter 2014
Hotel prices are not yet reflecting the positive momentum in RevPAR. However, we expect prices for hotel properties to rise in the next quarter based on our repeat sales index. A comparison of current operating yields relative to borrowing cost suggest that hotel investors expect most of investment performance to come from capital gains when the hotel is sold rather than operating performance...see more.

Faculty Profile


Professor Jack Corgel holds the Robert C. Baker Chair (Professorship) in Real Estate at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration and holds the position of the director of graduate studies for the Baker Program in Real Estate. Philadelphia Trek – Connecting with Alumni
The Real Estate Club teamed up with the Cornell Real Estate Council (Philadelphia) to coordinate a professional development trip to Philadelphia. Over two days in mid-March, Students had the opportunity to meet with over thirty members of the Council...see more.

From April 24-25, the Real Estate Club took its annual trip to NYC. With over thirty members in attendance and visits to some of the prestigious commercial real estate companies, this year’s trip was the best yet!...see more.

CREF/CREC/REMAC Reception
On April 24th over 70 students, faculty and alumni came together for a reception at the Waldorf-Astoria. This event gave students in the Cornell Real Estate Club, and the Real Estate Minor Alumni Club a chance to meet and expand their networks, allowing for mentoring opportunities. This event, was sponsored by Hilton Worldwide and the Waldorf-Astoria with special thanks to Dexter Wood ’87 SVP, Global Head-Business & Investment Analysis.

WX New York Women Executives in Real Estate Panel Discussion
Five executives from WX came to campus on May 1st to meet with students interested in careers in Real Estate and Finance. Students heard valuable career advice from Amy Applebaum ’86 Senior Credit Banker, JPMorgan; Cheryl Boyer ’87 Chief Operating Officer, Fulcrum Hospitality; Ellen Brown ’88 Executive Vice President, Acquisitions & Development, Denihan Hosptiality Group; Jin Lee, Principal and Founder, Royalton Capital; and Susan Swanezy Partner, HODES WEIL & Associates.

Retail Real Estate Roundtable Brought Together Faculty and Industry Leaders
The first Cornell retail roundtable, co-sponsored by the Cornell Center for Hospitality Research, held in New York City June 3rd, 2014, was well received.
